  • According to National Cancer Registry, in the year 2003 Malaysia recorded at least 1142 cases for leukemia.
  • Leukemia shows a decrease of 335 cases in year 2003 compared to year 2002.

  • Male recorded 663 (7.1%) cases of leukemia while women recorded 479 (4%) cases of leukemia among all cancers.

  • Male recorded the higher number and percentage for lymphatic leukemia and myeloid leukemia.
  • For lymphatic leukemia, 274 (63.3%) cases reported were among male while 159 (36.7%) cases were female.
  • For myeloid leukemia, male recorded 286 (53.1%) cases while women recorded 253 cases (46.9%).

  • Both lymphatic and myeloid leukemia also recorded male as the highest number of cases for children aged 0-9. In lymphatic leukemia, they recorded 149 (54.4%) cases while in myeloid leukemia they recorded 67 (23.4%) cases.

  • Malay ethnic has the highest number of cases for lymphatic and myeloid leukemia.
  • In lymphatic leukemia, Malay male recorded 189 (70.3%) cases. It is followed by Chinese male with 52 (19.3%) cases and Indian male with 28 (10.4%) cases.
  • Malay female recorded 112 (71.3%) cases. It is followed by Chinese female with 30 (19.1%) cases and Indian female with 15 (9.6%) cases.

  • For myeloid leukemia, Malay male recorded with 170 (63.4%) cases. It is followed by Chinese male with 71 (26.5%) cases and Indian male with 27 (10.1%) cases.
  • Malay female recorded 143 (60.1%) cases. It is followed by Chinese female with 70 (29.4%) cases and Indian female with 25 (10.5%) cases.
